This week we have challenged Emilie Nielsen to choose 11 items that represents her and her life in the past, present and future!

One item that represents my childhood: Lavender

Whenever I smell the smell of lavender, it immediately brings me back to slow mornings in my parent’s bed. My mom would make these little bags filled with dried lavender, which she would hang everywhere in the house and beside their bed. Every time I slept in their bed, that smell was always the first thing I noticed when I woke up. It gives me a very warm and calming feeling whenever I smell lavender!

One item that represents my nationality: Danish Pastry

If you ever come to visit Denmark, please do yourself a favour and try our pastry! My favourites are tea poppy seed buns, cinnamon twists, and spandauer. In Denmark, we eat it as breakfast and pretend it’s a healthy thing to eat every morning, but let’s face it: It’s cake. But if you ever get the chance to try it, do it! It’s a must.

One item that represents my biggest passion: Lingerie

At age 16 I became really aware of what kind of underwear I was wearing and how it made me feel about myself and my body. I became so into lingerie that still to this day, I have a dream of becoming a lingerie designer and having my own lingerie brand one day. It’s really important for me to always feel beautiful, sexy, and powerful in my own skin, and wearing the right set of lingerie can really bring me those feelings. Agent provocateur and For Love & Lemons are my two favourite brands!

One item that represents my highest ambition in life: To be happy

I’m 23 and the world is still pretty new to me, so I just hope that whatever path I take in life will lead me to happiness. As much as I want to become a lingerie designer or something in the fashion industry someday, it’s not something that I’m going to put as my highest ambition - because what if it fails? So I think it’s easier to tell myself that whatever I chose to do with my life, just make sure that it makes you really happy in the end.

One item that represents my current mood: The Sun

I know it’s not an item but I feel that is what represents my mood the best: Happy and sunny! For a very long time now I’ve been feeling balanced with myself, peaceful, creative, and unbothered by negativity. I think that’s the outcome of all the self-care and self-love time I’ve been having with myself during the quarantine.

One item that represents my favourite person: A ring

On my 21st birthday, my big sister gave me a simple ring from my favourite jewellery designer, Jane König. I carry it on my ring finger and I have never taken it off. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of her. She’s my better half and best friend and until a husband comes along, she’s the only one who’s allowed to put a ring on my ring finger.

One item that represents my style: Bodysuit

My style is still evolving, but I’ve always been very fond of comfortable clothes and soft materials. Most of the time I’m wearing figure-hugging clothes, so a good bodysuit has always been a must in my wardrobe. I think I wear bodysuits 3-4 times a week and I’m not sure how many I own, but it’s a lot! Normally I use my bodysuits with my high waist Levi’s jeans, under a suit, or with sweatpants on the weekends.

One item that represents my greatest fear: Wheelchair or pills

I fear losing my independence and not being able to do anything without help from others. The thought of suddenly sitting permanently in a wheelchair because of an accident, and not being able to live my life fully, really scares me. Or if I suddenly end up needing to take a lot of medication to function properly is also a thought that scares me.

One item that represents my profession: Sewing machine

Whenever I have the time for it, I sew clothes. I find it pretty necessary to practice my sewing skills if I want to become a designer, plus I like to be creative and make clothes for myself. My mom taught me how to sew when I was a little girl and I’m still learning new techniques from her.

One item that represents this year: My bed

I’m a pretty introverted person who likes to go out and have fun on Fridays and then after that, I need 5 days alone to recharge. Because of Covid-19, I’ve been forced to stay inside my apartment most of the year, which hasn’t bothered me at all! It just made me slow down 110% and really enjoy my alone-time. So most of the year I’ve spent in my bed watching movies, eating pancakes, listening to music and doing my nails. It also gave me a lot of time to Feng Shui my apartment and making it more of a home than it was before.

One item that represents me: My hair

My whole life people have referred to me as “the girl with the big curly hair” if they didn’t know my name. I love my curly hair and it has kinda become my signature and what everybody first notices about me, so I guess that’s what represents me the best. People even come up to me in public to compliment it, which makes me very flattered.
